Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Consultant Ecologist to join this dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have over three years of professional experience in ecological consultancy, a strong proficiency in QGIS, and a background in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). A protected species licence is also essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct ecological surveys and assessments, including Phase 1 habitat surveys, protected species surveys, and ecological impact assessments.
- Provide expert advice on biodiversity conservation, habitat management, and mitigation measures.
- Prepare detailed reports, management plans, and ecological statements.
- Utilize QGIS for spatial analysis and mapping of ecological data.
- Develop and implement Biodiversity Net Gain strategies for various projects.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and best practices.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of training sessions and workshops for clients and team members.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in ecological consultancy.
- Proficiency in QGIS for mapping and spatial analysis.
- Demonstrated expertise in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
- Protected species licence (e.g., bats, great crested newts, dormice, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in client management and business development.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM).
- Additional protected species licences.
