We are seeking a driven professional to join our team as a Regional Director. This role is pivotal to supporting the consultancy’s growth, increasing awareness of its multidisciplinary services, and driving opportunities for excellence.


The Role

As the Regional Director of the York office, you will lead the planning team, manage office operations, and foster collaboration across disciplines. Working closely with the Director of Planning, you will play a critical role in the overall management of the Planning Division, spearheading business development efforts and expanding our client’s presence in the industry.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a consultancy with a nationwide team of over 80 professionals, delivering projects across diverse sectors, including residential, commercial, and assets and estates.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the York office, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships to secure repeat business with minimal oversight.
  • Drive networking efforts to build industry connections and liaise with local planning authorities.
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities with new and existing clients.
  • Prepare and deliver winning presentations, reports, and strategic recommendations.
  • Negotiate and manage major client contracts, including legal and contractual aspects.
  • Demonstrate business acumen by developing and delivering profitable, strategic projects.
  • Oversee regional P&L, budget, and SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) performance.
  • Plan and allocate resources efficiently while collaborating with other divisions.
  • Provide expert guidance in planning appeals, including serving as an expert witness.
  • Conduct strategic planning research and policy development, including development potential assessments.
  • Mentor junior team members, fostering professional growth and development.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • RTPI-accredited degree or Master’s in a related discipline.
  • Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience, including leadership of large-scale projects.
  • 3–5 years of experience in people management at a strategic level.
  • Expertise in planning legislation across England and Wales.
  • Strong client management, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proven project management capabilities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with local politics and its intersection with planning.
