Job Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced, ecologically focused, high-profile thought leader to act as an ambassador and raise their profile in the natural capital and environmental industry. This role involves oversight of key business pillars, including statutory and voluntary markets, international expansion, marine net gain, and government policy frameworks.
This flexible role requires approximately 20 days per year, which will include attending industry events, giving speeches, participating in panel discussions, and attending board meetings. The time commitment may evolve as the company continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a brand ambassador at key industry events nationwide, including public speaking engagements, roundtable discussions, and high-level meetings.
- Develop and nurture relationships with government bodies, Local Planning Authorities (LPAs), and Responsible Bodies on policy frameworks linked to natural capital markets, ensuring alignment with long-term success.
- Review and challenge the organisation’s statutory BNG and future natural capital projects, ensuring objectives are met and delivering tangible benefits for nature.
- Assist in establishing and implementing industry best practices across BNG and other natural capital markets.
- Explore new methodologies in voluntary natural capital markets and contribute to developing a market-leading offering to deliver units to a global client base.
- Assess international natural capital markets for expansion opportunities, applying the organisation’s innovative model to a broader audience.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A minimum of 20 years of experience in ecology or conservation, with a deep understanding of environmental markets.
- Extensive knowledge of natural capital markets, biodiversity legislation, policies, and guidelines, including contributions to shaping relevant national and local planning policies.
- Strong ecological expertise, including habitat assessment and ecological impact assessment methodologies.
- Proven leadership skills with experience engaging government bodies such as DEFRA, Natural England, and LPAs, supported by an established network of relationships.
- Exceptional communication skills to present complex technical information effectively to diverse audiences.
- An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to innovate and challenge the status quo, ensuring positive outcomes for nature through private funding sources.
- Significant corporate governance experience, having served as a board member for at least five years.
Salary and Benefits:
A competitive package, commensurate with experience, will be payable based on the candidate’s day rate.
