About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Ecologist with field experience, who is looking to join a growing consultancy in a desk based project coordination role. This is a new role with a nominated CIEEM best small consultancy, as a result of a growing business, in place to support new Ecologists.

We are looking for someone to communicate between ecologist and client, acting as a a Project Manager, working with a junior ecologist and the more junior ecologist who will be the assistant project manager. The assistant will conduct the surveys and report back to the Project Coordinator about survey findings. They will discuss recommendations together and the Project Coordinator will then be point of contact for liaison with the client, keeping the assistant cc’d in on correspondence and attending meetings etc so they can learn the art of effective communication.

The role will be a 9-5 role which will not require any fieldwork but will require work from the office as effective liaison with the team will be crucial.

There will be an opportunity to shape the role.

We anticipate the job will entail:

  • Project management (liaison with resource coordinator about survey schedule)
  • Liaison with assistant project managers
  • Liaison with clients
  • Production and review of quotes
  • Production and review of reports (the latter if a full member of CIEEM)

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Genuine and demonstrable enthusiasm for ecology and the environment;
  • Experience of habitat surveys (UK Habs/ NVC) and protected species surveys;
  • Excellent understanding of survey design, industry best practice and mitigation measures;
  • Excellent communication skills (with colleagues, clients and third parties);
  • Motivated to work both independently and as part of a team; and
  • Comfortable designing surveys and quoting for work.

Desirable Skills

  • Full member of CIEEM (or eligible if not currently held);
  • Excellent report writing skills;
  • Degree or equivalent in an ecology related discipline;
  • Experience of line managing and mentoring junior members of staff; and
  • Comfortable generating new work and networking.
