About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Ecologist to manage projects, prepare reports, undertake surveys, and provide expert advice to clients. In this role, you will contribute to delivering exceptional service while supporting senior staff to enhance your skills in managing larger and more complex projects.

Our client is a leading ecology consultancy dedicated to delivering high-quality ecological services to a diverse range of clients. Their team of expert ecologists combines technical expertise with a passion for environmental conservation, ensuring exceptional outcomes for every project.

As an Ecologist, you will report to your Line Manager and support the company's overall performance under the guidance of the Managing Principal Ecologist. 

Role Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

Communication 

  • Providing verbal and written advice to clients.
  • Liaising with Local Authorities, statutory bodies, and stakeholders.
  • Discussing requirements with new and existing clients.
  • Occasional attendance at meetings.

Project Management 

  • Managing projects, especially smaller and less complex ones, with opportunities to handle larger and more complex sites as you progress.
  • Ensuring all project work adheres to operational procedures, professional standards, and best practices.
  • Completing projects to a high standard and within budget.

Ecological Surveys 

  • Conducting ecological surveys for various species and species groups.
  • Leading survey teams and collecting high-quality, accurate survey data following industry guidelines and internal procedures.
  • Developing technical knowledge of species and habitat identification and evaluation.

Report Preparation 

  • Preparing various ecological reports, including PEAs, EcIAs, EMPs, BMAs, and EPSM licence applications.
  • Ensuring all reports meet high standards and adhere to reporting guidelines.

Supporting Senior Staff 

  • Assisting Senior and Principal Ecologists with report preparation, surveying, and data management.
  • This responsibility may decrease as you manage your own project workloads.

Preparation of Fee Proposals 

  • Preparing fee proposals and supporting tender document preparation.

Business Development 

  • Assisting with business development activities as requested.

Mentoring 

  • Providing guidance and advice to mentored staff members to support their personal development and career progression, in line with the Mentoring Manual.

Information Technology

  • Using various software packages to analyze survey data and support reporting requirements, including GIS for mapping.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A solid background in ecology and environmental science.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proficiency in ecological survey techniques and data collection.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience in preparing ecological reports.
  • Ability to use GIS and other relevant software.
