About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and talented Technical Director to join our client’s team, playing a key role in their ongoing expansion across the UK. With multiple office locations nationwide and a strong commitment to hybrid and remote working, our client supports a flexible working environment to accommodate individual needs.

The successful candidate will take the lead on a variety of high-profile projects across industries such as Energy, Petrochemicals, Manufacturing, and Distilling.

About the Role

This position requires a highly skilled professional with extensive expertise in blast-resistant structural design, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven track record of successfully managing complex engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and contribute to industrial projects from initial concept through to detailed design and completion.

  • Provide expert technical guidance on blast-resistant structural design and assessment.

  • Take the lead on intricate structural projects, ensuring high-quality technical delivery.

  • Play a pivotal role in growing and developing the specialist team, including recruitment, mentoring, and training.

  • Maintain effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively across multiple projects.

  • Drive risk management and mitigation strategies within project designs.

  • Assist in preparing project proposals and tender submissions.

  • Collaborate with Directors, Business Development, and Marketing teams to identify and develop new business opportunities.

  • Engage with clients to establish project scopes and define proposals.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • A degree (BEng, MEng, or MSc) in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Chartered status with IStructE or ICE.

  • Extensive experience within an engineering consultancy, particularly in specialist blast design and assessment.

  • Proven expertise in structural design, focusing on blast-resistant structures.

  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to blast design.

  • Expertise in determining blast loadings and advanced structural analysis techniques.

  • Proficiency in the design and assessment of reinforced concrete, steel, and other blast-resistant materials.

  • Competence in using specialist engineering software for blast analysis and structural design.

  • Experience in leading and developing technical teams within blast-resistant structural design.

  • A strong track record of producing high-quality technical reports and presenting findings.

  • Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines while managing multiple projects.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal abilities.

  • Full UK driving licence with the flexibility to travel to client sites as required.

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience in line management and mentoring staff.
