About the Role
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is excited to be working with a well-established ecological consultancy seeking experienced Senior and Principal Ecologists to join their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for passionate and driven ecologists to take on a key role in delivering high-quality ecological services across Scotland.
About the Role:
As a Senior or Principal Ecologist, you will lead on a variety of projects, managing ecological surveys, reporting, and liaising with clients and stakeholders. You will also support and mentor junior staff while working closely with the senior management team to ensure the successful delivery of projects. This role offers a blend of fieldwork and remote-based reporting, providing flexibility while working on exciting and diverse projects.
Key Responsibilities:

Undertaking and leading ecological surveys, including habitat assessments and protected species surveys (such as Great Crested Newts, bats, Badgers, Dormice, and reptiles)

Conducting botanical surveys using UKHab and NVC methodologies

Producing high-quality ecological reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and shadow Habitats Regulations Assessments (sHRA)

Providing expert ecological advice to clients, stakeholders, and statutory consultees

Managing projects of varying sizes and ensuring delivery within time and budget constraints

Undertaking biodiversity net gain assessments and applying DEFRA metrics

Using GIS software (such as QGIS) for data analysis and mapping

Mentoring and supporting junior ecologists in their professional development
About You:

Strong ecological background with experience in a consultancy setting

Proficiency in conducting and leading habitat and protected species surveys

Excellent analytical, report writing, and communication skills
-
A relevant degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field

Holding or working towards protected species licences is advantageous
-
Experience with project management and liaising with clients and stakeholders

Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork
