About the Role

Our client is currently seeking an experienced and driven Senior/Principal/Associate Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant to join their friendly and supportive Flood and Climate Risk Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with a strong technical background who is passionate about managing flood risk, developing colleagues, and contributing to business growth.

The role involves working on a diverse range of planning applications and transactional due diligence projects for both public and private sector clients. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a competitive salary based on skills and experience. The successful candidate will ideally be based in the Leeds or Manchester offices.

The Role

As a Senior/Principal/Associate Consultant within Water Services, you will oversee projects from inception to completion. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing projects from start to finish, including preparing fee proposals and tenders, demonstrating technical expertise, project management, and commercial skills.

  • Leading and completing Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, and Flood Scoping Reports to support client planning applications.

  • Providing guidance to staff on conceptual drainage design, incorporating Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and producing drainage plans.

  • Conducting technical reviews of reports, drawings, and calculations.

  • Completing Flood Risk Appraisals for investor and pension fund clients, assessing flood risks and providing mitigation recommendations and commercial advice.

  • Offering bespoke advice to resolve flood risk and drainage challenges for clients.

  • Supporting product development and contributing to emerging market projects such as nutrient neutrality and ESG.

  • Building strong relationships with clients and collaborating across technical disciplines.

  • Mentoring and managing staff to support their professional growth and development.

What We Would Like From You:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject such as Geography, or equivalent qualifications/experience.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in flood risk and drainage consultancy, with a strong understanding of design guidance, regulatory processes, and planning policy.

  • Proven experience managing projects and liaising with clients and statutory consultees.

  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify new business opportunities.

  • Experience using MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage or equivalent software (preferred).

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD (preferred).

  • Experience with QGIS or other GIS software.

  • Chartered Membership of a professional body or actively working towards chartered status (desirable).
