Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Ecologist with a specialization in ornithology to join our client's exceptional team. This role will involve leading important projects, providing expert guidance in ecological consultancy, and driving ecological services across key areas:

  • Preliminary Ecology Appraisals
  • Ecological Impact Assessments
  • Habitats Regulations Assessments
  • Mitigation Strategies

In addition to your field expertise, you will build strong client relationships, contributing to business development and expanding our client’s project portfolio. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring junior team members, shaping the next generation of ecological consultants.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Strong academic background in ecology, ornithology, or related biological sciences
  • Professional Membership: CIEEM membership, ideally working toward Chartership
  • Specialist Expertise: Demonstrated experience with breeding and non-breeding bird surveys on large sites
  • Knowledge of Legislation: In-depth understanding of UK ecological and planning policies
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in extended Phase I/UKHabs and specialized species surveys
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Experience with Habitat Regulations Assessments, Natural England, and designing effective mitigation strategies
  • Client Engagement: Proven experience working with clients, statutory bodies, and local planning authorities (LPAs)
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills for clear, effective communication with clients and peers
  • Project Management: Skilled in managing and mentoring teams, delivering projects on time, within budget, and exceeding client expectations
  • Business Development: Demonstrated ability to secure projects and contribute to growth
  • Alignment with Core Values: Commitment to collaborative, values-driven work that supports ecological and environmental standards
  • Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence required

Salary and Benefits

Salary: £38,430 - £45,460

The current salary band reflects 2024 pay scales, with potential adjustments for inflation and other factors each January.
