About the Role
As a Senior Ecologist, you will:
- Lead and coordinate protected species surveys and mitigation projects.
- Provide expert advice to clients on ecological constraints and sustainable design solutions.
- Prepare technical reports, including chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments.
- Mentor and manage a team of ecologists, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective project solutions.
- Contribute to business development through tendering, proposals, and service diversification.
While this role is primarily office-based, travel and occasional overnight stays may be required to meet project demands.
What We’re Looking For
This B Corp consultancy is seeking passionate and skilled ecologists who:
- Hold a relevant degree and have a minimum of three years’ professional experience.
- Possess strong knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation.
- Have expertise in fieldwork and report writing, including experience with mitigation licence applications and ecological management plans.
- Demonstrate proficiency in managing protected species projects for groups such as bats, great crested newts, badgers, or dormice.
- Are confident in liaising with clients and stakeholders, providing innovative and commercially sound solutions.
- Have experience reviewing technical work and mentoring junior team members.
- Hold (or are eligible for) membership with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
- Possess a full, clean UK driving licence and are eligible to work in the UK.
Desirable qualifications include:
- Holding a Natural England protected species licence (e.g., Bat Class 2 or GCN Class 1).
- Specialization in botany or Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
