Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior/Principal Ecologist to become an integral part of their successful team. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely, with the option to visit regional offices across the UK. You will play a key role in conducting and overseeing ecological surveys, managing projects, and mentoring junior team members if desired.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys/UK Habitat Surveys to accurately map habitats and assess their potential to support notable or protected species.
- Perform Phase 2 surveys for legally protected species.
- Produce high-quality ecological reports and review the work of junior team members.
- Design and manage ecological surveys, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Oversee project delivery, ensuring completion within set timelines and budgets.
- Liaise with clients, professional advisors, contractors, and the public.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Opportunity to manage and mentor junior team members.
Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (minimum 2:1).
- Minimum of four years of experience as an ecological consultant.
- Strong field skills across a range of protected species and habitats.
- In-depth knowledge of ecology-related legislation and planning policies.
- Proven ability to write clear, concise, and high-quality technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments.
- Experience in reviewing technical ecology reports is preferred.
- Experience conducting BREEAM 2018 assessments.
- Familiarity with the latest Defra Biodiversity Metric.
- Skills in writing fee proposals, project management, and client liaison.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and commercial awareness.
- Membership of CIEEM.
- Possession of Bat and GCN Natural England protected species licenses (Level 1 or above).
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
