About the Role

The socio-economic team plays a key role in delivering this mission by conducting pioneering research and impactful studies to inform policy and development strategies. The team has contributed to significant UK projects like Heathrow Airport, HS2, the Channel Tunnel, and the Thames River flood alleviation project.

Candidate Profile
We are seeking a Principal Consultant to lead work in socio-economic impact assessments, particularly in the rail sector, economic development, business case preparation, and employment land reviews. You should have experience in several of these areas, with skills in data analysis, report writing, and data modelling in Excel. You should be driven by professional values, eager to learn, and capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyse statistical and qualitative socio-economic planning data
  • Produce reports assessing and measuring the socio-economic impact of development, especially using recognised models for economic metrics like employment growth
  • Support public sector clients in developing local economic strategies
  • Deliver cost/benefit modelling and value-for-money analysis following the Treasury’s Green Book
  • Pursue new business opportunities, contribute to proposal writing, and assist in company-wide business development
  • Manage a small team, conducting appraisals and facilitating training and development
  • Lead project management, ensuring delivery to client standards while following company protocols
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, associates, and external partners
  • Uphold a positive, performance-driven, and customer-focused organisational culture
  • Ensure a professional image and consistently high standards in all client interactions

Requirements

  • Relevant degree/diploma and experience in the environment or planning sectors, with membership in relevant professional institutions
  • Proven project management experience
  • Advanced IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams with tight deadlines and budgets
  • Strong work ethic, technical ability, and client relationship management skills
  • Experience managing staff performance and training
  • Excellent presentation skills

The role offers a flexible hybrid working policy with occasional travel within the UK.
