About the Role

Our client is seeking applications from experienced ecology professionals to provide technical leadership and help shape and develop a team of skilled ecologists. You will have a strong track record in consultancy, including business development, client and project management, and technical expertise. This role will work closely with the senior leadership team to expand the ecology portfolio and drive growth and quality.

With a team of nearly 100 staff, including 10 in the Macclessfield office, your leadership will inspire and guide the team’s development and performance. Our client is looking for someone with vision, passion, and a commitment to fostering their core values of integrity, technical excellence, and expediency.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in ecological consultancy
  • Full membership of CIEEM (Chartered Ecologist preferred)
  • Proven experience managing teams, providing guidance, feedback, and ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of the team
  • Strong project management skills, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget
  • Experience in bid writing and a focus on commercial growth in the region
  • Thorough knowledge of UK and EU environmental legislation, planning policies, and processes
  • Expertise in reviewing technical reports and supporting team development through constructive feedback
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain, Biodiversity Impact Assessment, UKHABS survey methodology, and DEFRA metric calculators

You will:

  • Be determined, ambitious, and aligned with the core values of the company
  • Provide sound technical advice, working closely with the team
  • Lead recruitment, appraisals, and nominate high-performing team members for pay reviews and promotions
  • Effectively engage and communicate with clients, stakeholders, and environmental regulators
  • Act as a conduit between the leadership and the team, helping to set the strategic direction and instill core values
  • Support team growth, development, and resilience through active leadership and line management
  • Collaborate with senior management to monitor professional development against appraisal targets and the CIEEM competency framework
  • Promote the services of the wider business through cross-disciplinary networking and collaboration
  • Contribute to securing new business by identifying opportunities and working with senior leadership on bids and proposals
  • Be an excellent communicator, adept at conflict resolution, and able to navigate complex situations effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders
