About the Role
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well-established, innovative ecological consultancy in their search for a talented Senior Ecologist to join their expanding team.
Since their founding in 2015, our client has experienced consistent growth, earning a reputation for technical excellence, pragmatic advice, and outstanding client service. Due to their continued success, they are looking for an experienced ecologist to play a key role in their supportive, dynamic team.
About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity to manage your own projects from quoting through to invoicing within a nurturing environment. Your work will span:

Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and habitat condition assessments

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments
-
Protected species surveys
-
Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and associated reports
-
Preparing tenders and quotations
Whether you're a well-rounded consultant or a specialist eager to carve a niche, you will be supported to shape your own career path. While projects are based across the UK, most are concentrated in the Home Counties, South, and Midlands. Some travel and overnight stays are expected, but the company is proactive in protecting work-life balance with caps on unsociable hours.
Key Skills and Experience Needed

Genuine passion for ecology and environmental work

Strong experience conducting habitat (UKHab/NVC) or protected species surveys
-
At least one protected species survey licence (e.g., bats, dormouse, GCN, barn owl, rare reptiles)

Proven project management and field team leadership skills

Excellent written communication and report writing abilities
-
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively, often in remote locations
-
Effective communication skills with colleagues, clients, and third parties
-
Experience preparing or supporting EPSM licence applications
-
Confident designing surveys and quoting for work
-
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable Extras

Advanced skills in a specialist ecological area

CIEEM membership (or eligibility for membership)

Degree or equivalent in an ecology-related discipline

Proficiency in QGIS or ArcGIS

Experience in mentoring and line managing junior staff

Business development and networking skills

Successful EPSM licence applications for protected species
