About the Role
Our client, a small but fast-growing Ecology Consultancy, operates across the Midlands and occasionally further afield. Specializing in small developments, they offer a wide range of ecological services, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) reports, Protected Species Surveys, Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRAs), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), mitigation licenses, and more.
They are seeking an Ecologist and/or Senior Ecologist to join their experienced team, contributing to the delivery of a friendly, professional ecology service for their expanding customer base. Candidates should ideally be based within easy access of Staffordshire and neighboring counties. They have a 4 day working week!
Role Overview
As an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist, you will play a vital role in conducting ecological surveys, preparing assessments, and supporting the delivery of diverse projects. You will work closely with the Director of Ecology and other team members to ensure projects meet high professional standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Conducting field surveys, including UK Hab Surveys/Phase 1 habitat surveys, protected species surveys, and BNG condition assessments.
- Producing ecology reports, such as PEAs, BNG reports, PRAs, Protected Species Reports, EcIAs, mitigation license applications, and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.
- Creating habitat maps and BNG calculations using QGIS and Coreo.
- Advising clients on ecological constraints and opportunities.
- Contributing to biodiversity enhancement plans and habitat restoration schemes.
- Liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
- Keeping up-to-date with industry best practices and contributing to the company's development.
About You
The ideal candidate will bring:
- A degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Eligibility for CIEEM membership.
- Professional ecological experience, including assisting with or leading UK Habitat Classification Surveys and protected species surveys.
- Strong botanical identification and habitat assessment skills.
- Experience producing BNG Assessments and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.
- Proficiency in GIS mapping software (preferably QGIS) and Coreo field data collection.
- Strong report-writing skills.
- A broad skillset, ideally including at least one protected species license.
- A good understanding of UK and EU environmental legislation, planning policy, and best practices.
- Experience managing projects, including client-facing roles.
- A full driving license and access to your own vehicle.
